English translation [LP] I. The honoured, joyous evening, in which my firm hope, in a beautiful way, came graciously to fulfil my request for love, brings me back to those pleasures thanks to sweet memory and makes me compose songs, from which I thought to withdraw; for it is very right that I should sing, merry and joyful, since the one with whom I am in love and who is the noblest who ever was, wishes for me and my songs. II. For her graceful, perfect, courtly person, noble, precious, worthy, gracious and high-born, and the amorous eyes which were able to steal my heart away, and her love, for which I bow before Provence, have [all] raised me up so high that I am full of bliss and elation, as long as our love is perfect joy and it is possible to fulfil it. III. For in the one who pleases me are true wisdom and valid understanding, an unaffected demeanour and reputation of great price, honorability and noble conduct; and I sing gladly of these things in order to tell of her worth, and I appreciate the gifts and the delicious pleasures and the sadness I saw her feel at the moment of our painful farewell, full of doubts and anguished sighs. IV. For this pardon is needful, for I delayed a little in returning speedily to her in her dwelling; so I beg her faithfully on my knees that mercy will win her over in my favour and forgive my fault; for neither honour nor sleeping with her nor kissing nor having her with me keep me here or make me hesitate, so let her not fear that my desire might change. V. But if the journey I have undertaken for penance to the place where the true God became incarnate, brings pain to her heart, such pain should not continue to possess it: for, according to every valid opinion, of all qualities worthy of note the greatest is that of the one who goes, in good health and joyfully, to serve the glorious King who is the true Saviour, for in heaven and here below the reward will be rich. T. Lady Maria, you are so beautful and so excellent that there is no emperor in the world who would not be honoured by your gifts.
VI (ms. a1). Now it is time to go with God the Father. May He who suffered death for our sake be a guide to us and to the companions who are our fellows in the duty of obedience (may their faith now assist me!); and may He receive for Himself the persons and goods which these have dedicated to His service, and may the torment and harsh suffering be sweet in His sight.

Tradizione indiretta: razo 167.B.D in N2 (vv. 1-3). Metrica: a5 b6’ a5 b6’ a5 b6’ c5’ c6’ d5 d6 c6’ d6 d6 (Frank 279:1). VI). [GB, lb] Apparato critico e note al testo Datazione e circostanze storiche |
