General info

Attribution: The song is attributed to Marcabru in Aa1 and to Bernart de Venzac in C. It has been assumed in the past that Marcabru could not have been the author because of the phonological features of some rhyme words, but this assumption rests on the premise that the versification must have been perfectly regular, which we do not believe would necessarily have been the case (see our edition, pp. 20-26).
