Critical Editions / Other Editions

Critical editions: Jean-Marie-Lucien Dejeanne, Poésies complètes du troubadour Marcabru, Toulouse 1909, p. 205; Simon Gaunt, Ruth Harvey and Linda Paterson, Marcabru: A Critical Edition, Cambridge, D. S. Brewer, 2000, p. 521.

Philological note

Base of the text A. On the whole the Mss. are uniform, but there is nonetheless a predictable IK affiliation and an opposition between A and IK. All three Mss. require some correction in stanzas II, IV, and V. All three Mss have isolated errors. IK appear to have common errors. Of the three medieval Mss., A requires the least intervention and offers better readings than IK.

Metrics and music

Versification:  a7' b7 a7' b7 c7 c7 d7' (Frank 376:13).  Five coblas with ‘b’, ‘c’ and ‘d’ constant, ‘a’variable. The same rhyme scheme is used in BdT 293.28.  This poem contains a high proportion of unusual rhyme sounds while many of the words occurring at the rhyme are unique in the Marcabru corpus.
